We went to another ward today- we were visiting my husband's brother&family... I am always amazed at how loud other wards sing. My ward is so quiet when singing- I feel like I'm singing a solo most of the time. It was wonderful to blend in with others' voices. I don't care if you aren't the best singer out there- the least you can do is sing at church! These are songs of praise- a testimony really. I sing to feel the spirit through music. I have always sung loud and thought that it was important. I don't understand what is wrong with my ward but I have been trying to brainstorm ways to get these members singing loud at church. Maybe an entire sacrament meeting of singing only. Maybe callings from the bishop asking people specifically to be ward singers who will sing their hearts out during any song sung at church. Maybe threats to make sacrament keep going until they sing the hymn at a certain decibel. Who knows? Maybe I will suggest it to the bishop!

  1. This was so funny for me to read for 2 reasons:

    1. I am not a good singer, I belt it out for my kids, but at church am a little more reserved. I sing, but no Debbie Rollins (love her btw)

    2. Our new ward in Nashville, it THE QUIETEST singing ward. The first Sunday we were there, Richard and I could hardly believe how quiet people were singing, and wondered if we missed a sign that said reverent singing only. And its a big ward! So when we went back to Knoxville for a visit, it was loud compared to the new ward. So, of course, we got the worst case of the giggles.

Now, we both sing loud, (off-key I am sure) and make our kids sing too! Maybe it will encourage others to sing so they can't hear us ;)
